Getting started

Auto switch

Learn how Time-line Live selects the deck currently playing to the audience.

Time-line Live automatically determines which DJ deck is currently playing to the audience. This process is called Auto Switch.

Whenever the active deck changes, Time-line Live automatically follows the new deck and updates waveforms, Key Points, and Automations. No manual deck selection is required.

Although Auto Switch is enabled by default, you can manually override it at any time by clicking a deck in the Decks panel. Time-line Live immediately makes that deck the active deck. Auto Switch continues running in the background and may switch again later if another rule is triggered.

Auto Switch

Instead of relying solely on the Master deck, Time-line Live combines information from the DJ equipment with the musical context of both tracks. Using Key Points, it determines the most appropriate moment to switch the active deck, helping Key Points and Automations stay synchronized with the music the audience is actually hearing.

Why Auto Switch Matters

Time-line Live always follows a single active deck. That active deck determines:

  • Which deck is highlighted
  • Which Key Points are shown
  • Which track Automations respond to

Auto Switch continuously determines which deck the audience is actually hearing, allowing your show to stay synchronized automatically throughout the performance.

Customizing Auto Switch Rules

Auto Switch can be configured from Settings > Auto Switch.

For most users, the default settings work well and don't need to be changed.

In addition to several configuration options, Time-line Live determines the active deck using a list of Auto Switch Rules. Each rule defines when Time-line Live should switch from the current deck to another based on the Key Points of both tracks.

The default rules have been designed for common genres and are recommended for most users.

However, every DJ performs differently. If your workflow requires different behavior, you can edit existing rules or create new rules. This gives you complete control over how Time-line Live follows a live performance.

Other Auto Switch Settings

  • Use Mixer Score — When multiple decks satisfy the same Auto Switch rule, Time-line Live uses information from the mixer to help determine which deck is most likely being heard by the audience.
  • Ignore Previous Deck — When enabled, this prevents Time-line Live from immediately switching back to the previous deck if it briefly becomes a valid candidate again. This can help reduce unnecessary switching during long transitions or layered mixes.
  • Minimum Play Before Considering for Mix — This specifies how many bars a track must play before it can be considered for becoming the active deck. Increasing this value can help prevent accidental switches to decks that are only briefly previewed or cued.
  • Prefer On-Air Decks — Gives priority to decks marked On Air when determining the active deck.
